August cruise cancelled.
September 2000:

We got out Monday morning only to have the cruise cut short by Hurricane Flo. The Gulf Stream was close inshore-- OB63 well within the stream. The deep mooring at OB 63 was recovered and redeployed, with the instruments all downloaded and serviced. Seas were not conducive for pulling the larger nets so, nets that could safely be pulled were deployed at OB63. Seas built during night and prevented us from returning to OB60 for sampling. We did get back out to OB37 and worked our way back in, sampling the remainder of the sites along the way-- ever prepared for Flo to turn north-westerly and chase us. Unfortunately, we were not successful in collecting larval fish for Dr. Kinsey, as they were not found in the samples we collected. I suggest that everyone prep for the possibility of Flo turning and coming ashore Thanks to the science crew-- J.C. Cook, Bob Gamble, Tom McGinnis, Andrea Quattrini, Jay Souza, and Ansley Wren-- they did a super job under very adverse conditions. Capt. Dan and his crew did a find job of running the ship, as usual. October 2000:

We made it-- the cruise went well even with the sea conditions we encountered. Thanks Dan and crew. We were successful in getting all the sampling finished with the exception of the Tucker and Methot nets (due to the seas). The science crew did a great job-- thanks Jay, Bob, Andrea, Tom and JC, nice work. At this time, it’s not looking good for side scan work next week, as the equipment is down. As you all must know by now Bob Gamble will be leaving us for a new job at Woods Hole the end of this week. I would like to say a big thanks to him for the excellent job he has done on the COMP project. Good luck and the best to you, Bob.

November 2000:

Cruise went well, even with the poor forecast we had for weather conditions. All the sampling was completed. We managed to complete sampling for Spivack and collected Gulf Stream water. Thanks go out to Capt. Dan and his crew; Ken Johns and Mike for all their help, and to the science crew; John Murray our able ET, Jay, Bob, Tom, Andrea, and JC for a job well done.
