January 2001:

The cruise went very well-- accomplished all the sampling we set out to do. Everyone should have their samples. Thanks go out to the ships crew for a job well done. John Murray did a great job with the CTD/Rosette during the cruise (plots of the casts available shortly). We had some new faces on the science crew this month-- John Hackney, Sue Holst and Byron Toothman-- along with some old timers, Jay Souza and Andrea Quattrini. Everyone did a super job and the outlook for accomplishing this year’s work is looking really good with such a fine crew. Thanks to all.

February and March cruises canceled due to weather.

April 2001:

We finally got out last week for our April sampling and had a very successful trip. We even got a lock on the OB63 mooring assembly and know that at least part of it is still on site. We will attempt an ROV recovery this week weather permitting. All the sampling scheduled for this month went off well, although we never got to the Gulf Stream due to time limitations. Samples were taken for Dr. Spivack and sent off Saturday. Other samples delivered to Co-PI's on Friday upon our return. Thanks go out to Captain Dan and and his crew as well as the science crew for a job well done. Next week we have plans for re-deployment at OB27.

May 2001:

We had a great cruise this month-- all sampling was completed. Weather was good and as usual the crew of the R/V Cape Fear was on top of things. Science crew did a bang up job getting the samples taken. Samples have been delivered to all the CO-PIs (or in the mail). The rest will be processed as usual. We need to meet to discuss any changes to our sampling routine for the new funding as of June 1. I'd like for us to address any changes ASAP so I can be sure to get them incorporated into the cruises right away.

June 2001:

The CORMP cruise went very well-- all sampling was finished and weather was good. I hope to have the CTD data etc. on the server by early next week, at the latest. Time to start planning for next month’s cruise-- week of July 9th. Please let me know if you require samples from this cruise or if there will be any changes to your sampling requirements.

July 2001:

The sampling went well again this cruise-- all samples were obtained and are either in their appropriate labs or on their way.  We had a medical emergency during this cruise that required a crew member to be air lifted to the hospital. I would like to congratulate the entire crew of the cruise, both the ship’s crew (Captain Dan, Mike and Rob Deans) and the science crew (Jay Souza, Ansley Wren, John Murray, Kim Nelson, & Matt Head) for the great job everyone did. Their help made dealing with the emergency go off with out a hitch. Everyone followed directions to the tee and acted both professionally and at a level we all should be proud of. Amanda is doing well and hopefully will be able to get things back to a level that will allow her to return to our cruise soon. We all wish her well and look forward to her return.

August 2001:

The CORMP August sampling cruise was completed yesterday and went off without a hitch. All sampling was completed and most samples have been delivered to the appropriate labs or can be picked up in Room 2310. Although the science crew consisted of three new members this month, every thing went like clock work. Ashley, Ellen, and Chris did a super job—are you free next month? As usual, the ship’s crew and Chris Powell were most helpful in getting the work accomplished, thanks all.

September 2001:

The cruise this month went well; all the sampling was carried out successfully and all samples have been sent out to the appropriate co-PIs. The weather and seas were good and we didn't encounter any problems. Two graduate students  (Alex Croft & Adam Knierim) from Dr. Willey's class did very well and contributed to the success of cruise. Hope you both got some good experience-- thanks guys! Also, may thanks to the rest of the science crew and the crew of the R/V Cape Fear for a job well done!

9/20/01 9:56 AM Collected Gulf Stream H2O for Tomas, Baden and Wright

October 2001:

We were able to get out for our Oct cruise on Tues and Wed of this week (10/23-24); all went well and we were able to accomplish just about everything. The CTD/Rosette was unavailable due to a malfunction so there were no water samples collected this month for Dr.Mallin/Lankford. One of the new instruments for Cooper/Durako was deployed during this cruise and with great success--.attached is the sampled stations sheet for your reference.

The CORMP server should have the updated data on it within a week or so.

10/25/01 2:08 PM    Collected Gulf Stream H2O for Tomas, Baden and Wright

November 2001:

We finally got out. Trip went well and all sampling was finished. CTD/Rosette is not back from calibration, so, we did not get water samples this month for Drs. Mallin and Lankford. Drs. Durako & Cooper had their 2nd instrument (SeaWiFS spectrometer) on this cruise and sampling went  well. The next cruise is quickly approaching-- slated for 2 days of week of Dec. 10-14.  I will not be on that cruise as I am undergoing surgery the 27th of Nov. and will be unable to go on the ship until some time after that cruise. Jay Souza will be running the cruise and I ask all of you to please be as prompt as you can with equipment delivery and any requests that may change the sampling routine, so he can plan ahead. I will be sending out the list of dates reserved aboard the R/V Cape Fear for the CORMP cruises for the year 2002. Thank you and hope each of you has a wonderful Thanksgiving.
